SAMPLE ITINERARY

Zambia Walking Safari

All of our African tours are exclusively tailor-made for you according to your preferred luxury levels, budget, appetite for physical activity, preferred activities and time of year when you can travel.

However, most people want a couple of sample itinerary ideas to get started. Here is an example of a classic walking safari itinerary. The walk itself is operated by Robin Pope safaris – New African Safaris can book this for you as well as any additional activities and stopovers you may wish, and we can organise flights and transfers.

Our services don’t cost you anything extra – our commission is paid by our travel partners and not our customers – so you get the services of an expert Africa travel concierge for free.

THE ULTIMATE AFRICAN WALKING SAFARI EXPERIENCE!

Spend the first night settling in and preparing for your walk at Nkwali camp, an intimate camp of just 6 open-fronted river-facing chalets.

You may choose to go on a game drive or guided walk from camp or visit Kawaza cultural village to meet locals and learn about Zambian life.

The next 6 days will be spent deep in the remotest parts of South Luangwa, where annual flooding means you’ll be treading lands without roads and encountering animals unfamiliar with humans.

An expert guide will help you to track animals on foot, examine spider webs and bird nests and other small details of the bush, while an armed scout keeps you safe at all times. South Luangwa is known for excellent guides, and you’ll be in great hands in terms of both safety and having company with sharp eyes who know where to look.

While you have every chance of viewing the big 5 on foot, a walking safari is more about immersion into the wilderness, engaging all 5 senses.

Expect to walk around 10km per day, and then spend the night in comfortable walk-in tents in campsites that have been set up for you, and enjoy meals cooked for you around the campfire surrounded by the night sounds of the bush.

Your final night will be spent unwinding either in luxury tents at Tena Tena or traditional rondavel chalets at Nsefu Camps, where you may choose to go on a game drive, or we can organise a spa treatment for you to help relieve sore muscles.

New African Safaris can easily adapt this base package for you, by extending your walk for another 2 days or adding on a beach visit to nearby Mozambique or Malawi, or a trip to Victoria Falls.

This is just a sample itinerary to give you ideas of the experience and price. Remember – we tailor-make our tours just for you, so let us know your needs and we’ll customise it for you.

As your travel concierge, we can include flights, transfers, activities, and even include insurance to simplify your payments into one, and handle any cancellations or re-bookings on your behalf, should you need it.
